- Sunday June 8 Report: Askole-Paiju Date: Sunday June 8, 1997 Swedish Time: 6.00 pm Name: Magnus Rydén Place: Paiju, Pakistan, 3335m
Saturday went as planned except for a nagging cold that one of the expedition members had caught. On sunday (today) we arrived to Paiju where the carriers held their official sacrificial ceramony of a goat, along with preparing food for several days ahead. Know we have reached a height just under 3400m. and everyone seems to be fine, except for that nagging cold. One of the carriers has become ill, although that was solved fairly easily. You are truely in the hands of these carriers and you really have to be diplomatic. Tomorrow we head up towards the Urdukas glacier, so we have to enjoy of the small grass patches that are here. We are not the only foreigners here, there are also Japanese and Nepalnesian expeditions. It's almost dark so it's time to go to sleep, here we follow the sunset and sunrise instead of clocks." |
